City harvest: the rooftop revolution taking over Brisbane
The future is wild, and it could be coming to a city near you.
Ellia Guy doesn’t just want our cities to consume food – she wants them to grow it. As founder of Brisbane-based interdisciplinary practice Future Wild, the environmental scientist and her team are at the forefront of the urban agriculture movement, creating kitchen gardens and edible landscapes on rooftops, balconies and underutilised concrete spaces across Brisbane and South East Queensland.
Wild vision grows into fruition
Ellia Guy sees what others don’t. Across our cities lie acres of unused space – rooftops, carparks, verges, balconies – that could become flourishing, thriving edible gardens. This is the concept behind Future Wild – a Brisbane-based practice founded by Guy that is transforming unused urban areas across South East Queensland into organic kitchen gardens.
